A federal district court judge in Washington, D.C. on May 14 invalidated the National Labor Relations Board’s expedited union election rule, declaring that the Board did not have the statutorily required quorum when it adopted the rule.

“Two members of the Board participated in the [Dec. 16] decision to adopt the final rule, and two is simply not enough,” the opinion states. “Member Hayes cannot be counted toward the quorum merely because he held office, and his participation in earlier decisions relating to the drafting of the rule does not suffice.”

A new physician at the hospital just sent you a Facebook friend request. As his superior, do you accept or reject? What do you do if the hospital's Facebook page includes pictures of pediatric patients? What about pictures of medical staff's kids who come in for holiday parties? Who maintains the posts and reviews comments for nasty language--a marketing director or physicians? [more]

Every two years Publicis Touchpoint and Sermo release poll results about what physicians want titled, not surprisingly, “What Physicians Want!” You can get the full white paper from the Touchpoint website.

As both a research creator and consumer I find it important to highlight the selection bias that is rampant in this document. Sermo, as is well known, is North America’s largest physician-only social network with over 120,000 members. It stands to reason that the physicians that use Sermo will be at the top-end of digital adoption, so expect any questions regarding how they prefer to receive information to be biased in that direction. Further, the answering physicians were overwhelmingly primary care physicians (PCPs) with only 38% specialists in various fields.

It's not uncommon to run across stories about how doctors are using mobile technology—smartphones,EMRs,mobile apps, iPads and more. But you don't see much in the mainstream news about nurses and mobile health.

The results of a recent survey show that the docs aren't the only ones caring for patients using smartphones. Mobihealthnews.com reports Wolters Kluwer Health's Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) checked with almost 4,000 nurses and nursing students and found 71 percent of nurses using their smartphones in their jobs and 66 percent of students using them in nursing school.
